What's the process when buying a puppy?
A simplified explanation of what to expect when buying a puppy from Mini Doodle Dogs.
1. You see an upcoming litter or puppy you love and want to bring home!
We'll post pictures of our upcoming litters or currently available puppies. If you see a litter or puppy you're interested in and you're ready to place a deposit to reserve a puppy, fill out our puppy application & shoot us a text. If you see a litter you're interested in or a puppy you like and it's not available let us know and we'll tell you when we expect to have a puppy with similar coat, color, temperament, size etc will be available.
2. The litter is born & genders are available for deposits
We wait to accept deposits until after the puppies are born so we know the gender you prefer is available. Once the litter is born we know exactly how many boys & how many girls are available & will open up deposits to those that have filled out applications first. If there are still puppies available that haven't been reserved we'll announce the available puppies in a newsletter as well as posting them on our website.
3. You place a deposit on the litter and gender of puppy you're wanting
To reserve a puppy we need to know that you're committed to loving and caring for your puppy, so before we'll put your name down as committed we require a $500 Non-refundable deposit. This gives us a timestamp so we know exactly who placed what deposits on which litter & gender of puppy at exactly what time. The deposit marks your place in selections when the time comes to pick your puppy.
4. Book your flights, or contact your Pet Nanny to arrange for bringing your new puppy home.
Flights are cheaper the earlier they're booked, so check with us for the go-home date for your puppy to schedule your flights or transports. We are always happy for families to fly in to pick up their new furever family member, but as that's not always easy so we have a couple Pet Nannies we can recommend for transporting your pet to you. Each pet nanny needs as much time as possible to book flights to get you your pet home on time, so be sure to contact them with your deposit, airport, & contact information as soon as you're able. Then be sure to keep us updated on what transport arrangements you've made.
5. A Trainer comes in to Volhard Test each puppy
After the puppies have developed to the point that their personalities and temperaments are more easily distinguishable, we have our trainer come in and Volhard Test each puppy to determine what type of home they would best fit. Each puppy is given a score from 1-6 and based upon this rating we'll be able to recommend certain puppies that are more calm or more active.
6. Puppy Selections will begin after the puppies have been tested
By order of deposit each family will have pictures and videos (or a Facetime call) available to select from the available puppies which one they love the most and want to make their furever pet! Selections will start with the first deposit & continue until all the puppies have been selected. Each family will have up to 24 hours to choose their puppy at which time we'll continue with the next in the selections list until everyone has picked their puppy.
7. We'll send you our Puppy Contract & Final Invoices
We'll email you the Puppy Contract with the 1 year Genetic Health Guarantee, as well as some basic instructions for what to prepare for when your puppy comes home. The contract needs to be signed and returned & final payments made 1 week prior to the puppy's go home date.
8. You make the Final Payment to pay off the puppy prior to delivery.
With the prior payments subtracted we will email you an invoice with the final balance due 7 days prior to the puppy leaving us. You make the final payment and be sure to sign and send back the contract as well. If you'd prefer paying in cash, be sure to contact us to make arrangements beforehand.
9. We'll meet you at the airport or deliver your new puppy to the pet nanny with whom you've made arrangements.
It's time for your puppy pick up! If you're flying in we'll coordinate a time to meet you at the airport. For those with a pet nanny flying the puppy, be sure to give us the nanny's info and we'll coordinate with the pet nanny and meet them at the airport where they'll take the puppy & the puppy transition pack to deliver to you.
10. You take your puppy home to love and care for furever!
You take your puppy home or the pet nanny delivers you your pet and then you take him/her home. With each puppy we send a puppy transition pack with all of their original Vaccination & Vet check records, State Health Certificates where needed for flights, a blanket that smells like mama & littermates, a toy to snuggle, a rope to chew, & a bag of their puppy food to use as you transition to the puppy food you've chosen to feed them.
